Membership in the Children's Literature Association is open to both individuals and institutions. Membership is for one calendar year.

Individual members are entitled to:

  • Issues of the ChLA Quarterly and the annual volume of Children's Literature both published by The Johns Hopkins University Press that year. The Quarterly publishes juried articles about research and scholarship in Children's Literature, as well as special sections devoted to particular topics in children's literature. Children's Literature is an interdisciplinary journal which has been praised for its high level of scholarly and critical writing, features articles on various authors, illustrators, and periods of children's literature, as well as interpretive essays and book reviews
  • Individual members, including retired and student members, also receive the ChLA Newsletter, published twice annually.
  • The partnership with The Johns Hopkins University Press also means that issues of the ChLA Quarterly and Children's Literature will become part of Project Muse, the electronic journals service.
  • The opportunity to order other ChLA publications.
  • Reduced fees at the annual conference.
  • Full voting privileges.

Categories of individual membership are:

  • Regular membership
  • Retired membership
  • Student membership (available to those currently enrolled at a university or college. Limited to four years.)

Canadian and overseas membership rates are adjusted to compensate for increased postal costs.
