Student Work
Projects
- On-line Discussion
[20% of final grade]
This will be our main form of "real time" contact and
conversation; while the discussion will be informal (you won't
be evaluated on your writing here), participation is essential.
don't miss this one!
- Weekly Postings [20% of final
grade]
Starting in Wk 2
to a NetForum topic area, 1-2 pgs. These will be informal but
you should avoid evaluative responses to the ficiton, focusing
instead either on your own inquiries or on questions posted by
one of the faculty. Following student postings, faculty will
then offer their reflections, responding to student comments,
and exploring what we take to be key issues in the texts. We
hope this will lead to lively discussions of the main ideas in
each text.
- Short essay I [20%]
3-5 pgs, due in week 8
This will be a semi-formal, focused essay (probably working with
assigned topics) that analyses a single text or aspect of a text. The essay
will be posted to the class web site so participants can read each others'
essays and add responses to the conversation.
- Term project [40%]
10-15 pgs (or
equivalent).
This should be either a traditional term paper (including substantial
econdary resources), or a well developed hypertext web document of equivalent
length and complexity. You'll want to develop your topic early in the term
and build toward the term project throughout--you may even wish to adapt
your second essay toward the final. Questions on the term project will
be entertained throughout the course of the semester.
- Grad Credit
We'll ask students seeking graduate credit in the course to
complete 3 Annotated bibliography entries, to be added to the class web
site, and to develop a correspondingly richer term project.
