According to John M. Lannon, in Technical
Communication, "workplace correspondence often suffers from letterese,
those tired stuffy, and overblown phrases some writers think they need
to make their communications seem important. Lannon then goes on to
give the following chart to help revise commonly used letterese to plain
English" (374).
